What do I need to do prior to the movers arrival?

Our movers will perform a visual inspection of your property to determine how to label boxes, what is going and staying, where to place items at the destination, and configure the load in case of extra stops to be made. Be so kind to clear walkways, clean and dust furniture, as we are not liable for any debris and dirt that track in and around your home. Vehicles should be parked away and out of the driveway. We recommend you keep your pets away from movers to prevent injury and running out of open doors. If you are packing by yourself, consider packing heavier items (books, tools) in smaller boxes, labeling fragile boxes legibly, packing boxes tightly, and taping them closed. Make sure to unplug any electronics, empty out dressers and cabinets,  unplugged and drain your appliances, thaw and drain refrigerators/freezers days before moving day. Please keep in mind that we do not transport gas, propane, perishables, flammables, aerosol, firearms, or any hazardous materials.

What can I do to better prepare my mirrors, pictures, and TVs?

We offer supplies and packing cartons necessary for the proper transport of your belongings. Televisions and musical instruments should be in their original packaging, but we can provide the proper cartons for them as well. If you are packing by yourself, we recommend you use bubble wrap, styrofoam, and newsprint packing paper to pad the walls and corners of the box. Items like lampshades should be in a carton by themselves.

How much will my move cost?

We offer free estimates based on averages contingent upon square footage and the number of bedrooms. As there are many variables involving moving, additional charges and time could be added and affect your final cost: Some examples include:

  • Weight Additives (Gun safe, piano, pool table, hot tubs, freezers, bulky and heavy items, etc.)
  • Stairs, elevators, and long distance carry at origin and/or destination
  • Assembly and disassembly (anything we disassemble will be assembled)
  • Extra stops between origin and destination.

What type of protection can I get for my move?

All moves come with Basic Value Protection, which covers $0.60 per pound per item. Full Value Protection (FVP) covers the weight of your move times $4.00. If you multiply that number by $0.0075, that is the cost to have FVP protection for your move. Example: Move weighing 10,000 lbs would give you $40,000 in protection, and will cost $300. As a shipper, we are entitled to the option to repair, replace of like-kind, or reimburse at market/today’s value.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept cash, checks payable to Next Stop Movers, or credit/debit (subject to a 3% processing fee).
